Hari Raya Aidil Fitri begins with the sighting of the moon on the eve of the month of Syawal.

the nite before Hari Raya Aidil Fitri, children will help their parents to clean the house, decorate it with lamps or colourful lights, paint the interior and the exterior of the house, and hang a new curtain to make the room beautiful.

Three days before Hari Raya Aidil Fitri, children will help their elderly ones to bake a variety of biscuits and cakes and keep them in containers in the kitchen.

On the eve of Hari Raya Aidil Fitri, Takbir Hari Raya Aidil Fitri will be recited either from the Masjid or broadcast from radio and television. Both men and women will visit the Masjid for the Hari Raya prayer and everyone asks for forgiveness from one another over misdeeds in the previous year.

There are specific rules prescribed for observing the day of Hari Raya Aidil Fitiri.

It is obligatory for Muslims to wake up early in the morning, to clean their teeth, to take a bath, to put on their best available clothes, to wear perfume and to eat a sweet food, preferably dates, before saying the two rakaat Solat Sunnat Aidil Fitri prayer.

Then go to the nearest mosque, early mornin, not at 11 a.m or 2.pm. Most families pay a visit to the cemetery to pray for the departed souls of loved ones. Then, of course, comes the feast.

Delicacies like meat and chicken curry, lemang (glutinous rice boiled with the banana leaf in bamboo) ketupat (rice boiled in pandan leaves), ofcourse, fried fish in sweet and sour sauce are served on the eve of the festival.

After paying the Solat Sunnat Aidil Fitri, Muslims are required to proceed to an open place where they can offer the prayer collectively. In this way, they are supposed to present themselves before their creator and offers two rakaahs of this special Solat, which will bring them blessings from Allah to begin the celebrations.

After the Solat Sunnat Aidil Fitri, they are also expected to rejoice the day in a responsible manner, without violating the limits prescribed for them and never indulging in the acts prohibited by Allah.
